Add Prescription

In order to add prescription for a selected patient, Check the following steps.

Add Prescription

  • Select specific patient from the patient list.
  • Select the “Prescription” module.
  • Press “Add” button in the prescription grid view.
  • New page “Add Prescription” opens.
  • Add Prescription” includes the following fields:
    — Provider: Is a drop down list that contains all of the active providers assigned to the selected branch in the navigation bar.
    Note the following about the provider field:
    > When the logged in user is the (Provider) himself “Log in by a provider account”, then the name of the logged in provider will be displayed in the Provider field.
    — Date:
    Is the date field to select date when the prescription created. By default it displays today’s date and time. And user has ability to change the date, time, or both date and time.
    — Status: Is a drop down list contains (Active and Expired), in which user selects the status of prescription.
       > Active prescription means that patient still takes the drugs in the prescription.
       > Expired prescription means that patient has finish the drug course in the prescription.

    — Drug: Is a drop down menu that contains all of the defined drugs from settings module.

    — Strength: Is the Strength of the selected drug.
    — Dispense: Means how much dispensed “Tells the pharmacist how many pills should be dispensed”.
    — Refill: Means how many time patient will be allowed to use the same drug.
    — Expiration: Is the period of time (Number of days) that patient should take the drug through it.
    Note that: User must insert value in the “Expiration” field that it can’t left empty, you will not be able to add the drug. 
    — Substitute: Is a switch button of (Yes or No), that if it’s “Yes” then the selected drug could be replaced (Substituted) by other drug, and if “No” that means drug can’t be replaced by other.
    — Patient Instructions: Field that displays instructions written for patient while creating the drug. User could edit in the instructions displayed in this field.
    — Pharmacy Instructions: Field that displays instructions written for pharmacy while creating the drug. User could edit in the instructions displayed in this field.
    — Side Effects: Field that displays the side effects of drug (If exist) written while creating the drug. User can’t type instructions in this field, it’s only managed from settings module.
    — Notes: Field that displays any notes added for the drug while creating it from settings. User can’t type notes in this field, it’s only managed from settings module.— “Add” button: Add button used to add drugs in the prescription, that the added drugs are listed in the (Selected Drugs) table.
    — Selected Drugs section: Is the table that displays the added drugs for patient in this prescription.
    > Table contains the name of added drug, instructions for patient to take the drug, expiration period and a column of transactions (In order to delete or print only a specific drug from the prescription, without deleting or printing the whole prescription).
    — Prescription Notes: Is the field where the user or provider could add his own notes on the prescription.
  • So, to add a drug in the prescription, select drug, insert “Expiration” days, and any required field. Then Press the “Add” button.


  • In order to add other drug repeat the above steps.
  • After selecting required drugs and adding it, Press “Save” button to save the prescription

  • Once a prescription is saved for patient, then directly an automatic message (SMS and/or Email) will be send to the patient on time of creation or after a specific period of time from creation, that depends on the automatic rule created from settings module to manage the sending of prescriptions’ messages to patients, For more information about prescription’s automatic rule, Check: Configure Automatic Rule for Patient’s Prescriptions.
